Salaried employees with only salary income usually need not worry because TDS covers it. Advance tax matters when you have capital gains, F&O profits, rent, interest or freelance income not covered by TDS.

Interest under 234C is 1% per month for three months on any shortfall at each instalment (one month for the March instalment). Capital gains arising after an instalment date can be paid in the remaining instalments without interest.
